Women Who Run with Wolves

Pinkola Estes,
Women Who Run with the Wolves, 1992

"All creatures must learn that there exist predators. Without this knowing, a woman will be unable to negotiate safely within her own forest without being devoured. To understand the predator is to become a mature animal that is not vulnerable out of naivete, inexperience, or foolishness."

As a society we have not done a good job of preparing our children for the dangers that exists in the world. When we send them to camp we explain the dangers one might encounter in the woods but what about the dangers in their own neighborhood. We teach kids how to be nice and polite. Just viewed a video on stranger danger and kids got themselves in potentially dangerous situations for ice cream. Gotta prepare our young women for the real world. No more fairy tales!
